Dr. Richard Wylie, President of Endicott College,
Joins North Shore InnoVentures’ Board of Directors
BEVERLY, MA, September 30, 2014. North Shore InnoVentures, (NSIV) one of New England’s leading technology incubators and business accelerators, announced today that Dr. Richard E. Wylie, President of Endicott College, has joined the organization as a member of its Board of Directors. Wylie, a pioneer in developing innovative programs for adult learners and a leader in the North Shore economic community, joins NSIV’s board as the incubator is experiencing growth and partnering with higher education institutions.
“Dick Wylie has committed to helping North Shore InnoVentures strengthen the biotech industry cluster in our region through the support of startups and the education and training of a skilled workforce.” said Martha Farmer, President & CEO of North Shore InnoVentures. “Dick shares our vision, and as a member of our Board, his leadership in developing partnerships between industry and academia will be invaluable as we look to strengthen our relationships with institutions throughout the North Shore.”
Dr. Wylie is on the board of the Life Sciences Consortium of the North Shore, which is a partnership forged in 2012 by NSIV and four regional colleges (Endicott College, Gordon College, North Shore Community College, and Salem State University). By pooling resources, the Consortium’s members will be able to offer both aspiring students and promising entrepreneurs access to sophisticated, expensive but widely used analytical instrumentation for both research and training, strengthen the region’s biotech cluster and expand opportunities for internships and employment of graduates.
“I’ve seen firsthand the outstanding work that NSIV has done for both their promising entrepreneurs and for our aspiring students though their internships with NSIV client companies,” said Dr. Wylie. “I look forward to supporting NSIV’s mission of helping early stage companies succeed, while helping prepare our students to compete successfully for jobs in the state’s fastest-growing industry sectors.”
North Shore InnoVentures operates technology business incubators to nurture innovative early-stage companies and support sustained economic growth in the North Shore region. NSIV focuses on cleantech and life sciences, two of the strongest technology clusters in Massachusetts. The incubator provides creative business acceleration services that increase the success rate for early-stage companies and their investors.
Under Dr. Wylie’s 27-year leadership, Endicott College has transformed from a small, two-year women’s college to a four-year, coeducational institution that includes a graduate school and sites around the world, with an enrollment of more than 5,000 students. Over the past ten years, the Endicott campus footprint has doubled and today includes The Science and Business Center, a new facility with STEM incubator labs that provide startup biotech companies with an infrastructure to develop their ideas. NSIV works closely with companies in residence in the new STEM incubator labs, providing mentoring and support services.
In addition to creating new undergraduate programs spanning many disciplines including Biotechnology, Environmental Sciences and Entrepreneurial Studies, Dr. Wylie has established graduate programs through the Van Loan School of Graduate and Professional Studies at Endicott, which offers a Master’s of Business Administration and recently was approved to offer Ph.D. degrees in Nursing and Applied Behavior Analysis.
Dr. Wylie is actively involved in the North Shore community and serves on numerous boards, including banks, corporations, and non-profit agencies. Prior to Endicott, Dr. Wylie was a professor and administrator at the University of Connecticut, Temple University, the University of Colorado, and Lesley College. He holds a doctorate in education from Boston University.
