About our panelists:
Mitch Tyson
Mitch Tyson is a high tech executive and entrepreneur. He serves on a number of corporate, non-profit, and governmental advisory boards. He advises early stage companies and entrepreneurs and lectures on clean energy, entrepreneurship, management, and the triple bottom line.
Mitch was CEO of Advanced Electron Beams (AEB), interim CEO at AmberWave Systems, and CEO of PRI Automation, a publicly traded corporation that supplied automation systems to the semiconductor industry. From 1987 to 2002, he held positions of increasing management responsibility, and helped grow PRI from $4 million to over $300 million. Previously, Mitch worked at GCA Corporation as Director of Product Management (1985-1987) and served as science advisor and legislative assistant for energy to U.S. Senator Paul Tsongas (1979-1985).
Mitch is Chair and co-founder of the New England Clean Energy Council. He is also a board member of Photronics, Big Belly Solar, and 7AC. He also serves on the advisory boards of GreenerU and Energy Points. He is a partner in the Clean Energy Venture Group, serves on the Executive Committee of the Mass. Technology Collaborative (a quasi-public agency responsible for advancing the innovation economy), and is Co-Chair of the Massachusetts Advanced Manufacturing Collaborative. He is an adjunct faculty member of the Brandeis International Business School.
Jim Poe
Jim Poe has more than 20 years of experience in the retained executive search industry with a successful track record working with client company Boards and CEOs to recruit top executives across the spectrum of the executive team. Highly consultative approach coupled with a focus on results and a reputation for maintaining long-term client relationships.
Jim is currently a Partner at Polachi – an executive search firm where he provides access executive search services for the technology industry, including Hi-Tech, CleanTech, Private Equity and Venture Capital clients. Highly successful track record recruiting CEO, C-level and VP-level executives across all functions of the executive team. He also works with client companies throughout the US as well as affiliates in Canada, Europe and Asia.
Prior to joining Polachi Jim worked with technology companies as a managing director in the firm of Nagler, Robins & Poe. Before that, he spent three years at Fenwick Partners and another three years at Gustin Partners, both high-technology-focused executive search firms. Throughout his career in executive recruiting, Jim has worked closely with investors and senior client executives in both emerging growth companies and large organizations to help them build superlative management teams.
Clark Waterfall
Clark Waterfall is the co-founder and Managing Director of BSG Team Ventures, formerly the Boston Search Group, a boutique retained executive search firm focused on recruiting builder-leaders for the innovation sector. Vertical practice areas include software, cleantech, biotech, medical devices, interactive media, education and not-for-profit.
Clark’s practice area specialties include software, Internet, medical devices and healthcare IT. He also co-leads the firm’s cleantech practice with London-based Dr. Simon Haworth, focusing on renewable energy with a track record in solar, wind, biofuels, water, and green chemistry.
Clark’s volunteerism mirrors his passion for entrepreneurship, innovation, and social responsibility. This includes past roles as board member of the MIT Enterprise Forum’s Cambridge Chapter and 5 years as Chair of its Start-Up Committee, 3 years as Chair of the first ever clean energy business plan competition, Ignite Clean Energy recently merged with the Cleantech Open, Cleantech Open Board Director, and MIT Deshpande Center Catalyst, volunteer leadership roles both in the local Boston chapter of the Entrepreneurs’ Organization as Chapter President, and at the global level as EO Eastern Regional Director. As regards the executive search industry, Clark remains a board director of the IACPR (International Association of Corporate and Professional Recruitment) and co-hosts its twice yearly forum gathering for boutique retained search firms.
