The High School Internship Program is intended to give aspiring STEM students from the Metro North area a chance to experience the challenges of applying STEM principles in real work environments. We help encourage future entrepreneurs while fostering and growing the local BioTech/CleanTech community.
The experience of applying for, landing and performing “knowledge work” should serve successful candidates well as they think about their futures and apply for colleges.
Internships are coordinated within the academic environment and can be counted towards community service hours, if unpaid. Paid internships may be available depending upon availability of grant agency funds.
Our goal is to match 5-10 promising students to appropriate portfolio companies for the summer of 2017. The internships will last approximately 6 weeks, full-time.
We engage Lead Teachers / Department Heads at area high schools in the design and deployment of the Internship Program. Target schools include: Beverly High, Marblehead High, Salem High, Essex Technical, Peabody High, and Swampscott High.
Students will submit an application along with a teacher recommendation directly to InnoVenture Labs in early Spring 2017. Students should express their specific STEM interests and aspirations as part of their application.

Applications are screened and a subset selected for on-site interviews.
On-site interviews include interview training and a “speed-dating” session with InnoVenture Labs’ companies.
Matches are made based upon the interview process; additional longer interviews with the matched company are common.
Students will work with their companies over the course of the summer. Hours and length of the internship will be specific to each student/company. We will perform interim program checks with the student group every 2 to 3 weeks to make sure that students are comfortable, on track, learning, and appropriately engaged.
At the end of the internship, students will be required to create and present a poster documenting their work, their learning, and the impact of the program on their thought process.
