North Shore InnoVentures CEO, Martha Farmer, Ph.D., was invited to a discussion hosted by Massachusetts Congressman John Tierney regarding “Women in the Workforce.” U.S. Department of Labor Secretary Hilda Solis – along with the congressman and Massachusetts Labor and Workforce Development Secretary Joanne F. Goldstein – spoke and took questions the more than 65 women leaders in the fields of government, non-profit advocacy, business, green energy, education. The discussion covered issues such as pay discrimination, workforce flexibility, and increased job opportunities for women.
Dr. Farmer was able to not only promote women in the North Shore, but also work NSIV is doing to help biotech and cleantech entrepreneurs build sustainable businesses and create jobs. “I was honored to be invited to the forum and even happier to have the opportunity to discuss the issues affecting startups directly with Secretary Solis,” Dr. Farmer commented after the event.
